Help
Everything you need once you’ve got Pleat. Can’t find it? Email simon@keane.studio.
Getting in
Your licence key is in your receipt email from Lemon Squeezy, who sell Pleat for us. Open pleat.studio/app, paste the key and you’re in. There’s no account to make.
Can’t find the email? Search your inbox for “Lemon Squeezy” or “Pleat”, or look in spam. Still nothing? Email us with the address you bought with and we’ll resend it.
Devices
Solo works on one browser at a time. Studio works on up to five, one each. Each browser on each computer counts as one.
New computer? Open the Saved tab on the old one and press Sign out of this browser, then enter your key on the new one. Lost the old one? Email us and we’ll free it.
Pleat runs on a Mac or PC, and on an iPad or iPhone. It’s at its best on a computer, with room for the controls and the memory for 4K video.
Your brand
In the Colour tab, press New brand and add your colours, a background if you have one, and your logo. Every asset uses them from then on, and you can keep as many brands as you like.
Your logo
Use an SVG if you can: it stays sharpest at 4K. A PNG works too, best on a transparent background. Logo assets (Thermal, Echo, Melt, Projection, Scan, Glass, Chrome and Build) are built from its shape.
Where it’s kept
Brands, logos and saved versions stay in your browser and are never uploaded. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them, so export your brand from the Saved tab to keep a copy.
Tuning
Every asset opens looking finished. The Tune tab has its own controls, then its camera, position and motion (speed, direction and easing). Finish holds the background and 17 finishes, from dither and ASCII to reeded glass.
- Double-click a slider to put it back. A value you’ve changed shows in colour.
- R randomises the tab you’re on, Z undoes it, and the lock beside a control keeps it when you randomise.
- Reset puts the whole asset back to how it opens.
- Save a look you like in the Saved tab, by name.
Exporting
Pick a shape at the top (16:9, 16:10, square, 4:5 or 9:16), then:
- Export image (E): a PNG, 3840 pixels on its long side. With a transparent background it keeps its transparency. You can also copy it and paste it straight into another app.
- Export video (V): a seamless MP4 loop at 1080p, 1440p or 4K, at 24, 30 or 60 fps, from 4 to 30 seconds. With a transparent background it’s a WebM.
Video works best in Chrome or Edge, which can make MP4s in the browser. A 4K loop takes a minute or two; keep the tab open while it renders.
Using your files
- Figma: drag the PNG in, or copy and paste it. For motion, drop the MP4 into a prototype frame.
- Keynote, PowerPoint and Google Slides: insert the PNG or MP4 as a background and send it to the back. Set the video to play automatically and loop.
- Framer and Webflow: upload the MP4 as a background video, muted and looping. For a site header, 1080p at 30 fps keeps the file small.
- Social: export in 4:5 or 9:16 for feeds and stories.
Everything you export is yours to use for any client, for good. The licence has the details.
Sharing
In the Saved tab:
- Brand: export your brand as a small .json file, and import it on another browser or send it to a teammate.
- Saved versions: export them all as one .json file to back them up or hand them over.
- Link: copy a link that plays your look for anyone, in your colours. Your logo stays private.
If something’s wrong
The assets don’t show
Pleat draws with your graphics card through WebGL. Turn on hardware acceleration in your browser’s settings, or try Chrome. On an older laptop, close other tabs.
Video export won’t start
Use Chrome or Edge on a computer: they make video in the browser most reliably. Stills work everywhere.
My key says it’s in use
It’s open on as many browsers as your plan allows. Sign out on one from its Saved tab, or email us.
Refunds
Pleat opens as soon as you buy, so sales are final unless it’s faulty. If something doesn’t work, email us and we’ll put it right.
